World trade center (WTC)

Most of you are probably familiar with 9/11 incident in New york city, it was attacked collapsing 2 towers and killing many people. It has impacted many lives leading to more scrutiny and security measures every where. The lives of many has changed for ever. It took almost 14 years, to re-coup and re-build the world trade center. There is a 9/11 memorial constructed visited by a plenty.  In the place of those 2 towers, they constructed a water fall kind of model called as ground zero, water flowing in from all directions into the constructed area. The water flow creates some kind of serenity among-st the visitors. The names of people who lost their lives were etched on the slant wall around it with a flower holder. Memorial day weekend and September 11th of every year, people come visit and place flowers.  It is a beautiful site, planted with already grown (ready made) tall plants. Finally, last month the World trade center was opened for public allowing people to get to the top of the tower. Mind you, it is not free, in fact, entry fee is expensive than all other towers in NYC. But, I heard it is very beautiful and modern. On my list to check that out, some day!.

My work location is in downtown, and I pass by this memorial site and WTC tower every single day. It is always crowded at any given point of time, plenty of tours, various nationals visiting this place gives a kind of aura, that is hard to find elsewhere. I wish my office is located in the WTC tower. It would have been a closer commute for me.  I was surprised to hear that for some of my friends friends who were moved to WTC tower are concerned about their security. I feel, that would be the safest building now. Why? Once it has happened, it took so much of emotional, financial effort to re-cover and to re-build isn’t?. In fact, I feel, there will be better security in place to protect. isn’t?

Last time I read, it will be equipped with sensors that will detect the flights coming closer and will shoot them, I cannot find that article any where, and could not find any information related to security around the same lines.. did they change their mind? or was it not possible? I am not sure.

Have you got a chance to get to the top of WTC yet? or are there any of you, who will be working in WTC?

The tallest building is definitely worth getting to the top floor and have cup of coffee in the cafe.

Skyline – Downtown NYC from Statue of Liberty

One of my another best clicks – Beautiful weather and a great view from pedestal of Statue of Liberty. Yes, the tallest building among them is the World Trade Center.

Beautiful View

Day trip to Harbor Side in New Jersey

A mandatory trip to Harbor Side in New Jersey was worth the time and effort. Ended up traveling by Ferry from mid-town Manhattan, NY (pier -79 on 39th St and 12th avenue) to Harbor Side, NJ. The ferry ride was way quicker than I thought and surprisingly the seating arrangement is amazingly comfortable and within no time I landed there. Besides, the shuttles that take you to ferries are equally comfortable to ride in.

As you land, you’ll see the beautiful skyline of Manhattan Downtown, NY and felt as if I just crossed over from one end of NY to other end of NJ.  The best part about today was to meet the people I have only interacted over the phone.. of course I’m speaking about my colleagues and spend some fantastic time with my Team after 3 long weeks. It felt like forever.

Skyline of Manhattan downtown from New Jersey

Some times you would only know the true value when you badly miss something, and we take things for granted without our knowledge. And yes, as much as I crib about certain attitudes and personalities of the people I work with to my dear ones, I equally miss seeing them and in fact they are the fun people to compete and work with.

Some pictures clicked while walking on the streets of Harbor Side.

The tallest building in this skyline you see is the world trade center from distance.

Tallest building is the World Trade Center

The streets seemed to be pretty empty, or perhaps I choose the wrong time to step out. Interesting fact, they have light rail road (the trains are operated on roads)

Not many people around

And you should check out the Van Houtte Cafe, an European coffee shop, tasted much much better than Starbucks. It is on the Green St, Harbor Side, NJ. [ I know I mentioned no coffee in my previous blog, but it has been a week and I gave in for temptation].

The Statue seemed pretty interesting to not miss the click, there is some significance attached and I did not had enough time to know more about it .. let us save it for next trip or If you know about it, I would be more than glad to hear about it.

Interesting statue

and here is the last click – Water front.

Beautiful view

The most beautiful was the night view, got too lazy to click any more pictures. On our way back, there were bunch of people doing “Yoga” in this cold weather.. I wonder how they could warm up and flexibly bend their body parts.

Is it true that “we meet people for a reason”?

St Paul’s Chapel – Across WTC

Today was the most beautiful day here in NYC, slightly cloudy and mostly sunny. Thanks to a friend of mine who dragged me to Manhattan downtown to show him around.

Ever since I landed in NYC, I have had numerous guests coming over, be it a family or friends or friends of friends or family friends. I have been a tour guide with no knowledge about “what about’s of the places.. err..I meant history”, but know what those top 10 tourist destinations to cover all in a single day! I have visited every single place more than 10 times each in a span of 2 years.

Anyways, coming back to our topic.. after my friend left, I rambled into St.Paul’s Chapel Church. Amazed at the importance of the church and the hope & shelter it gave to people during WTC (world trade center) attack who were contributing to clean the mess out. If you are further interested in reading about it.. Click here.

As I walk through, it is more of an exhibits where it showcases, how people were being helped by volunteers, the messages they got from people around the world, letters and paintings from the kids, volunteers work and the life during those crucial 3 months right after the attack. In spite of the fall of WTC towers, there has been no physical damage occurred to this Church although it’s just across the street.  People were working round-about-the-clock, in 12 hours shifts and staying back to finish the work instead of going home.  Truly amazing..and it brought me tears in my eyes as I read and remember the people who lost their lives and happy for them who survived this episode.

Few clicks for you to get  a feel of it: All in the order from the entrance to a round about inside the chapel back to outside. Good news is that, if you ever want to visit this, you can get a free tour, they are offered Monday to Friday at 12 pm. No reservations required.. isn’t awesome?

9/11 – Remembering people who lost their lives in World Trade Center Terrorist Atttack!

Salute to those brave people who lost their life saving others in the WTC terrorist attack on Sep 11 2001. May all those souls rest in peace. It has been eleven years and they seem as if it just happened recently. We can only wish, incidents like this should never happen. Below are the pictures clicked this evening.
