Yes.. whatsapping is a new term that caught up in the recept past. Just like facebooking, orkutting, myspacing..oh wait is that publicly acceptable lingo? oh well.. we use it all the time..like

When some one asks me what are you doing?

I say either facebooking or whatsapping.. *sigh*

Ever since I installed whats app on “my smart phone” .. i’ve started whatsapping with people that I never thought would get back in touch with. I must have only spoken to few over the phone but now I see their picture and replace my imaginary picture with real one.

It is also irritating when some one looks at “Last Seen time” and complain that I did not reply back.. oh well.. with great things comes silliest problems too.

Overall.. I am addicted and this picture that has been circulating widely on whats app lately been whatsapped to me as well..

I definitely need to visit this whatsapp de-addiction center..Do you think you need tooo as well?

Honest Confessions

How many times have you failed to regularly write an entry in your blog?

I fail at it from time to time. Just last week, we celebrated a festival on a large scale. I wrote about the festival reminiscing childhood memories with appropriate pictures to be posted in this blog, alas lost the content while I got busy with some other stuff. I gave up re-writing about it.

Do you keep up with promises?

As for me, the success rate is far less than I want it to be. From last two posts where I promised that I would post the “Giant Christmas tree from NYC” and experiments of baby photo-shoot are left in the air as well. It is still on my to-do list.

Besides blog entry promises, I have mentioned about resolutions in my previous post where they can be renewed every year. In fact, I renew them every single day and decide to start tomorrow. Apparently, tomorrow never comes for me.

Another one where I mentioned about how coffee is bad for health, I gave up for few days but a natural instinct when you are on strict deadlines and if your stress levels are high, obvious option is to consume caffeine.

Do you take up new initiatives?

I am not sure if any one out there can empathize with me. Let’s talk about my new activities (for instance, knitting , learning guitar and public speaking and many other you can find on about me page) that I keep taking up every now and then, I am not as dedicated as I want to be. Trying new is exciting but sticking to them until you get through is the most difficult part.

Have you ever heard of a saying “Jack of all trades, master of none”, it righteously applies to me but some day I want to be categorized as “Jack of all trades, master of at least one” instead. Indeed, that is how it works in this modern era. It applies at your work location as well which I strongly believe in.

Coming back to the commitment of writing one blog entry a week is the biggest challenge that I want to take it up. Writing an entry, no matter how good, worse or mediocre it sounds.. it sure requires mind to be at peace and have thoughts flowing in with ease. I want to add bit of humor to my writings, another initiative on-the-go.

And these habits sure reflect in life and at work. I can audaciously say that I am very good at procrastination.

Question for you all- How committed are you with what you take up?

Conversation with a Stranger – it’s Strange!

As I walk out of the subway and heading home, here is the funny conversation with a stranger (Atleast, I thought it’s funny)

Stranger: Where is the hospital?

Me: It’s down one block, follow me. Are you visiting some one?

Stranger: My friend gave birth to a baby boy.

Me: Oh good.

Stranger: Are you visiting some body in hospital?

Me: I live here

Stranger: Where do you work.

Me: In the city

Stranger:  We have part time or full time  job in Finance, can you do that?

Me: What is the job about? (as if I am going to consider it, seriously ..what was I even thinking to ask such a question..)

Stranger: Quite a lot of things to do,…ummm… a lot of things… umm.. you can work on life insurances etc ..speak with my manager.

Me: *goes silent for few seconds..* .. I don’t have so much spare time to consider that option. ..and That’s the hospital right across.

Stranger: ohh no time..ok.. Thank you.

….I ended up getting away from that person as fast as I can to another lane and increased the momentum. Really, do I look like some one  who can deal with finances? perhaps the place where I work must have triggered him the thought to ask that question.. or may be my dressing (yeah, totally shabbily dressed this evening with some fat textbook in hand looking geek-ish, yes as you can guess a trip to library) might have made him assume that I’m jobless and displayed generosity by offering me a job or could have had some malicious thoughts behind.. who knows. Most importantly, how can you even trust a stranger with in couple minutes?

It’s a great learning experience living in NYC. As people do not really smile at each other in this city unlike other place I’ve lived so far and when you smile at them, you have to be extremely careful in not-prolonging the conversation in any case. You-never-know-how-crazy-one-can-be. Again, not always though.

Have you had such experiences?

Punjabi Sword Fighting

Ever heard about Punjabi Sword Fighting? I knew about sword fighting but not particularly to “punjabi’s sword fighting”.

I was talking to friend of mine recently as he mentioned about “Punjabi Sword fighting”. After reading the blog pointed out to me, I found the whole idea to be innovative and totally hilarious. I could not stop laughing at it. I found it too funny and told him it is definitely going on my blog.

The reason why it became popular on reddit and now an urbanslang too because the white Mexican (corrected by the author of the reddit post) guy wanted to marry an Indian girl from Punjab and the girls father has asked him to do Punjabi sword fighting with him and win his daughter away to marry her. Apparently, this guy freaked out and started to find ways to avoid it altogether. His posts and updates for suggestions became so popular that when you type punjab in google search, it prompts you with punjabi sword fighting! Check yourself out.

So here it is for you to read it and laugh your heart out.

I don’t think it is still the norm even in rural parts of Punjab, India. For the people who are hearing this for the first time. Punjab is one of the state in India and some of the communities had this tradition and I assume it is still going.

And my friend defends the fact that, every father is protective of their daughters and if he ever had a daughter, he would buy a Samurai Sword. I forget to ask why particularly samurai one? must be some attachment to Japan!

anyways this left a smile on my face and I hope it does to you as well.
