Expectations – a step down?

Is it not true that we have so many expectations from others, from the world? Likewise, they have it from us as well.

Expectations can be Overwhelming.

It is such a known fact yet we ignore to an extent that we are hurt, disappointed and express or develop some kind of enmity or aversion or anger towards them when others does not act the way we expect them to.

Having expectations is not a bad thing, but one need to understand that this is not a perfect world we live in. Nobody is perfect and the less expectations we have from others we are more excited in life. Instead we can raise the bar on expectations from self and work towards it. Sounds like a plan is it not? Some times we need to do reality check.

On the other hand, we living unto some one else expectations would be a hinder to our own growth. It might harm us in the long run if you don’t realize sooner.

When I pondered over this thought, I agree to the fact that – It is easier said than done. At least we can work towards lowering our expectations than be disappointed all the time and do what is best for self than trying to satisfy people around.

I loved below quotes on expectations and thought you might like them too (I have no expectations here that you should like them too.. it is more of For Your Information).

“If you expect nothing from anybody, you’re never disappointed.” ― Sylvia Path, The Bell Jar

“I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”   ―Bruce Lee

“I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than fatally disappointed.”  ― Julia Glass, I See You Everywhere

Love to hear back from you. What’s your take on this?
